When is good enough not good enough anymore?

How do we learn perfection? What is considered perfection? When are we responsible for perfection?

In college, some professors will baby you or will be completely hard on you. Which professor will you appreciate in the end? I would appreciate the one who pushed me to the max, who encouraged risk, and would not let me give up. Many students check out when they can't take the heat. But there are some students with the motivation to move forth.

What is perfection? Perfection is no flaws, completeness, among maybe other opinions and definitions of what perfection is. Our society strives for perfection. Hey, Look at Southern California for example, many people there strive for perfection in their looks. I believe this is the wrong kind of perfection.

The kind of perfection we should look for is in hard work. I feel our society has lost some of this. We expect things to be given to us. I guess we have become spoiled.

I think many students expect that they will paid large amounts of money once they graduate. But that isn't what happens.

Society needs a reality check. Hard work and perfection needs to be pushed in high school and college. How is the world or the United States going to move forth into the future if these values are not strive for.

How do you get the most out of your college education?

College is not just about classes and partying. There is more to it.
I am at my third quarter at Cal Poly. I knew I needed to take this opportunity in college to do things I have always wanted to do.
My first quarter back, I joined KCPR, Cal Poly's radio station. It was the best thing I ever did. I have met a unique group of people that I do not think I would have found at Cal Poly.
The freedom of college also allows students to explore. I am hugely into the music scene in San Luis Obipso even though I lived in an area previously huge for music, but I never went to many shows.
I also started my own business since I have been in college. I think I would have never done this if I was at home spending time just working and taking classes.
I think students should join clubs especially one's they believe in. I am a part of the American Marketing Association at Cal Poly, Poly Habitat (Cal Poly branch of Habitat for Humanity), and recently joined the Fair Trade Club on campus.
Becoming involved and not being a shadow is my best advice. There are tons and tons of students on campus and to interact with them is a gift. College is about discovering yourself and being able to embrace people of all different backgrounds is essential.
There are so many possibilities to be involved in your campus. Branching out allows one to break their shell. Make the most out of college. Do the things you never thought you would do.

Past, Present, and Future

How do we embrace the past while moving forth into the future?

I believe that past is important the future. You cannot leave your past behind. You can use for the future. Especially in Agriculture, we should know the previous methods.

Journalism vs. Communication and Why we are where we are today?

Here are some cold definitions. Journalism is using communications to convey news. Communication is a process of transferring information to a form of communications (speech, writings, etc) Journalists' roles are to report objectively without bias. Communicators can just push the points needed to be made.
Historically, the United States was built on Agriculture in an economic sense. By foundation, the United States is built on freedom of speech, right to an education, etc. Ultimately, the United States began with Agriculture and Communication. Today, most Americans forget about our agriculture involvement. We don't know where our food came from or the fibers that make up our clothing. We simply think it all just magically appears at the store. But agriculture is one of the biggest industry in the United States. California's agriculture alone is worth 36.6 billion dollars. As part of any country, things begin to change. The industrial revolution began. More objects and trinkets were being built. Manufacturing became America's powerhouse. More people moved away from farms to cities to find new promising jobs. Less lived off the their own land. Now manufacturing is dying and technology is the new boom in the American economy. As Americans we tend to focus on this new boom and have forgotten our agricultural past. But to survive, we still need agriculture. We still need food and clothing. That is why our agriculture past is still relevant to our present and future.

Class Reflections

Surprisingly, I am a Journalism major. Unfortunately, I do not want to be a Journalism major anymore. I took two years off from Cal Poly and discovered a true love for Economics. To satisfy this quirky love I plan to minor and who knows possibly double major.

I think I am a terrible writer. So I think the writing in this course will be my downfall. See why I don't want to necessarily stick with Journalism. But at least somewhere down the road I will learn how to write. You could also say I am anxious about working with this whole writing process in this class.

I am looking forward to revisiting Agriculture. I have put Ag behind me for sometime now. Almost scared to even think about what little things I will remember. I am surprised we are actually blogging for Agricultural Communications, but it is 2010.

The agricultural background I have is 4-H. It was an extremely long time ago. I quit 4-H when I was ten years old, but I had been with it since birth because of my older siblings' participation with the program. What I did raise was mainly pigs and sheep. I hated working with goats. I think they are disgusting diseased filled creatures. I never did much with agriculture outside of 4-H, so I will probably not know much else.
